Welcome to Korean Martial Arts!
Ages 4 to Adult - Martial Arts for the Whole Family
Korean Martial Arts is a martial arts school (dojang) in Maryland that teaches three traditional Korean styles - Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kumdo. We offer small hands-on classes with skilled instructors who provide a challenging but supportive environment suitable for all ages. Our school is a member of the World Taekwondo, Korean Hapkido Federation, and the Korean Kumdo Federation.
Taekwondo focuses on sparring with kicking and punching, and is the official sport of Korea and an Olympic event. It uses forms, sparring, and board breaking techniques to help improve balance, physical strength, and endurance.
Hapkido is a grappling art that also uses kicking and punching along with elbows and knee strikes. While it shares some aspects of Taekwondo, Hapkido strictly focuses on self-defense.
Kumdo is a sword art related to Japanese Kendo. It uses forms and sparring to teach balance, timing, and to improve awareness.
All of these art forms are taught in a way that encourages respect for others as well as self-respect, determination, austerity, and a sense of interconnectivity with others.
Our school is run by Grandmaster H.W. Kim. Grandmaster H.W. Kim is the President and founder of the Korean Hapkido Federation and the Korean Kumdo Federation. Before coming to America and founding Korean Martial Arts school (Han Kuk Mu Do Kwan) in Geum Ho Dong Seoul South Korea, he taught martial arts to Korean civilians, taught Hapkido, Taekwondo & Kumdo to the Korean Special Forces, and was a bodyguard to the President of the African nation Gabon.
Grand Master Kim has produced many high quality masters and instructors in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kumdo.
We offer many classes during the day, evening, and weekend to fit your schedule. We are conveniently located near Interstate 270 in both Gaithersburg and Frederick.
